Social Sciences Distinguished Alumni Award Ceremony

The Division of Social Sciences will honor alumna Kris Perry (Merrill, ’86, psychology and sociology) with the 2017 Distinguished Alumni Award on April 28.

Kris Perry and her partner Sandy Stier became well known after challenging Proposition 8, California’s controversial ban against same-sex marriage in a lawsuit described as “putting fear and prejudice on trial.”

It is thanks to Perry's commitment to social justice that we have equal marriage in California today.

Perry epitomizes the commitment to social justice that is a founding value of UC Santa Cruz. Currently, she serves as the executive director of the First Five Years Fund. She has dedicated her career to bringing resources and support to parents, caregivers, and early learning workforce professionals to ensure children grow up healthy and ready to succeed in school and in life.

The event will be held at the Seymour Marine Discovery Center in the La Feliz Room.
