Science, Politicians, and the Public: What's the Story?

2018 Osterbrock Lecture
featuring Dr. Rush Holt of the AAAS

With many public decisions being made on the basis of political partisanship rather than scientific evidence, what storyline should scientists follow and what difference does it make for the practicing researcher?

Dr. Rush D. Holt Jr. is an American teacher, scientist, administrator, and policymaker. Today, Holt is the CEO of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Before joining AAAS in 2015, Holt served as the U.S. Representative for the 12th-District in New Jersey, directed the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL), and taught physics at Swarthmore College. Holt holds MS and PhD degrees in physics from New York University.

The 2018 Osterbrock Distinguished Leadership Lecture is brought to you by the Osterbrock Leadership Program, providing thoughtful and informed leadership training for UC Santa Cruz graduate students.
