Colonialism In Our Time: Film Screening & Discussion of “Pig Feast” (2026)

UCSC’s Center for Southeast Asian Coastal Interactions (SEACoast), Film and Digital Media Department, and Mauna Kea Protectors (MKP) invites you to a special screening of Pig Feast (Pesta Babi): Colonialism in our Time (2026). The documentary, made by filmmakers at WatchDoc in collaboration with partners Pusaka, Jubi, Greenpeace, and Ekspedisi Indonesia Baru, is about the staunch resistance of Indigenous Papuans against the rapid destruction of Papua’s forests by the Indonesian government in order to plant sugarcane for bioethanol and oil palms for biodiesel. The film lays bare the brutality and speed of the state-directed program, showing the thousands of soldiers who have been deployed to Papua to enforce forest destruction, land theft, and the eradication of Indigenous ways of life. After the screening, we will host a conversation with one of the film makers, Cypri Paju Dale via Zoom.
