UCSC Institute of the Arts and Sciences (IAS) invited you to join us for the openings of our Fall/Winter season of exhibitions. The new exhibitions highlight two artists whose explorations in video, installation, painting, and sculpture examine some of the most enduring and challenging issues of our time: Carlos Motta: When Time Stands Still, a poetic and aesthetically rich exploration of the historical and aesthetic manifestations of difference and marginalization that inform current anti-immigration politics and climate injustices; and Victor “Marka27” Quiñonez: Ni de Aquí, Ni de Allá (Not From Here, Not From There), which grapples with issues of migration and belonging—and gained national attention after it was abruptly censored by the University of North Texas.

The IAS exhibitions open on October 2, 2026,  with a performance by vocal artist and composer Samita Sinha from 5-6 pm followed by celebrations with the artists. Elevar la Cultura opens at Santa Cruz Barrios Unidos on November 7, 2026, 2–6 p.m., with a celebration with the artist, featuring low riders, free food, live entertainment, vendors, and more. The exhibitions and opening events are free and open to the public.
