SUMMARY:Festival of Monsters: Academic Conference
DESCRIPTION:The 2026 Festival of Monsters Academic Conference (Oct. 14-18\, 2026) explores how monsters and language intertwine with panels on monsters and communication\, cursed texts\, monster poetry and more. Monster-related games will be played. Comics writer Iván Brandon and bioethicist author Rosemarie Garland Thomson  are scheduled to give the keynote talks. \nThe academic conference will take place at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel (313 Riverside Ave\, Santa Cruz\, CA 950603) near the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. There will be additional public events on Wednesday\, Oct. 14 and Saturday\, Oct. 17\, in downtown Santa Cruz. The Festival is sponsored by the UC Santa Cruz Center for Monster Studies. \nCurrent UC Santa Cruz students\, staff and faculty may attend the conference for free. DESCRIPTION:Connect with community on the campus farm at the annual Harvest Festival! Harvest Fest will have activities for all ages including face painting\, flower pressing\, pumpkin painting\, cider pressing\, tractor rides\, live music from Sambada and Lucas Lawson\, and more! Plus\, enjoy food and treats from local food trucks\, participate in an apple pie bake-off (learn more here)\, connect with local organizations\, and enjoy the campus farm. Full list of activities coming soon.\nCost: $5 for general public; free entry for current students of UCSC\, Hartnell and Cabrillo College\, Friends of the UCSC Farm & Garden members\, and children under 12. Cash preferred at the entrance gate. \nTransportation and parking: We encourage carpooling\, walking\, biking\, or taking the bus if you are able to! Parking info coming soon. \nLogistics: Please do not harvest any of the crops on the farm during your visit. The crops grown on the farm feed students in need and support our research and programming. We encourage you to bring a reusable water bottle to save plastic and stay hydrated! Pets are not allowed on the UC Santa Cruz campus (with the exception of service animals). The Harvest Festival is presented by the UC Santa Cruz Center for Agroecology\, the Food Systems Working Group\, Measure 43 and Life Lab. \nThe UCSC Farm has hilly and uneven terrain with gravel\, dirt\, and mulched paths. SUMMARY:Barnstorm Presents: 24-Hour Theater
DESCRIPTION:24-Hour Theater is a whirlwind work of experimental theater and a long-standing Barnstorm tradition. Using a surprise theme and props revealed the night of\, student actors and a production team work together to create new short works that are produced\, blocked\, and presented to an audience in just 24 hours. Audiences are invited to attend the culminating presentation on Saturday\, October 17. \nABOUT BARNSTORM\nUC Santa Cruz students experiment with and create their own innovative theater and gain a sense of operating and creating art in the Barnstorm Theater Company\, a student-run theater arts production company established in 2004.\n—\nADVISORIES \n\nContent may include adult themes including sex\, violence\, or other subject matter.\nThis venue has limited seating capacity.\nTicket holders not seated at least 10 minutes before the advertised start time may forfeit their ticket/seat and no refund will be issued.\n\nADMISSION \n\nAttend in person at the Theater Arts B100 Studio Theater at UC Santa Cruz.\nAccessibility and visitor resources available here online.\nTickets issued through Eventbrite; Follow the Dept. of Performance\, Play & Design on Eventbrite and Barnstorm on Eventbrite for notifications and updates.\nFREE for UCSC undergraduate students (ticket required).\nGeneral admission “Pay What You Like” options $5–20\nA limited number of tickets/seats may be available at the door\, even after online ticket sales end or reach full capacity.\nDoors are scheduled to open 30 minutes prior to event start time.\n\nPARKING \n\nArts Lot 126 is the closest parking lot to the event.\nVisitor event parking permits are available in advance on Eventbrite as a ticket purchase “add on” at a discounted rate or via the on-site attendant at the event for the standard visitor price.\nUCSC affiliates may use their valid UCSC permit\, rather than purchase an additional event parking permit; however\, on-site attendants will only issue permits at the standard non-affiliate rate.\nThe Core West Parking Structure (Lot 112) is free of charge on weekends.\nLearn more about parking at UCSC via Transportation & Parking Services (TAPS).
